West Virginia Pyramid Model Partnership
Strong, competent, families who are able to be deeply involved with their children are the greatest contributors to child progress and child wellbeing (Dr. Glen Dunlap, 2008).
The West Virginia Pyramid Model Partnership
The goal of the WV Pyramid Model Partnership is to enhance the knowledge and skills of the early childhood workforce and families in meeting the social emotional needs of young children. The WV Pyramid Model Partnership offers opportunities for training and coaching to profesisonals and builds capacity within programs by building infrastructures to implement, scale-up and sustain Pyramid Model practices with fidelity.
What is the Pyramid Model?
The Pyramid Model promotes the social, emotional and behavioral development of young children. When implemented with fidelity by professionals trained in the Model:
Children are supported within high quality environments where there are nurturing and responsive caregivers
Children learn positive ways to express their emotions, play with friends and to solve problems
Families learn ways to promote their child’s social emotional development, develop positive parenting practices and are connected to community supports
Children with challenging behaviors are supported by a team trained to meet their unique needs
Early childhood providers are supported in their work and know who to turn to when they have questions
The model is comprised of three tiers,
Universal Promotion for all children
Secondary Prevention for children who need targeted supports
Tertiary Interventions for children with challenging behavior
Within each tier, critical practices are identified to promote the social /emotional development of the child and the protective factors needed by the family to be successful
